Adolescent Mental Health Treatment

An adolescent in adolescent mental health treatment As children and adolescents develop, mental health issues may reveal themselves. Behavior that was once dismissed as the child “going through a phase” may indicate a more significant issue, such as a mental health condition. Without proper treatment, these issues can quickly get out of hand and cause harm to a child’s future. But, who can a parent turn to for help? The answer may be HillsidesCares. We are a leading provider of behavioral health treatment in California for children and adolescents who may need more guidance and support than they currently receive. Our adolescent mental health treatment programs are specifically designed to meet clients’ unique needs between the ages of 6–17. If you are the parent of an adolescent or child who may benefit from our treatment programs’ additional support, reach out to our HillsidesCares team today by calling 323.641.4842 to discover what services we offer.

Adolescent Behavioral Health Treatment at HillsidesCares

Once you choose HillsidesCares for adolescent mental health treatment, our multidisciplinary team will thoroughly assess your child’s mental and physical health. After this assessment, we will collaborate with you, your child, and your family to create a personalized treatment plan for your child. We involve the entire family in this process to encourage all family members to be active participants in the child’s treatment process.

One of the reasons our adolescent mental health treatment is so effective is that we offer different levels of care. This is known as our HillsidesCares Continuum of Care, which ranges from the most intensive to less intensive clinical services. We want each client to receive the precise treatment program that they need to meet and exceed their goals.

  • A trauma-informed environment with consistent supervision and support

We encourage families to take campus tours to see the setting firsthand and ask questions about daily life, safety, and programming.

Treatment Programs at HillsidesCares

All levels of care listed below are available at our Pasadena campus and are designed for children and adolescents ages 6–17.

Residential program

Our residential program provides comprehensive, round-the-clock care in a nurturing residential setting. Our beautiful campus, surrounded by nature, and modern facilities create a calm environment where youth can focus on healing and growth.
Clients participate in individual, group, and family therapy sessions throughout the week, with structured therapeutic programming Monday through Sunday. Evenings include supervised activities that encourage social connection, recreation, and skill development.
Weekend programming often focuses on life skills development, social skills practice, and creative enrichment activities such as art or music. These experiences help youth build confidence, independence, and healthy routines.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

While this program shares similarities with our residential program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) allows clients the flexibility of not needing to stay on campus overnight. At HillsidesCares, clients in a PHP participate in intensive therapy sessions and engaging activities throughout the day and return home in the evening

Operating Monday to Friday for approximately five hours each day, the PHP includes nutritious meals, group therapy sessions focused on building connections, therapeutic art classes that facilitate emotional expression, mindfulness instruction to enhance mental clarity, distress tolerance lessons to equip clients with coping strategies, and regular medical check-ins to monitor health and progress.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

IOP care is the most flexible and adaptable, catering to individuals who require support while maintaining a connection to their home environment. Clients in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) focus on developing essential recovery skills while spending significantly more time at home compared to a PHP program.

IOP sessions can be impactful, running three hours a day, three days a week, allowing clients to balance their treatment with their personal lives effectively. This structure supports ongoing recovery while empowering clients to implement what they learn in real-life situations.
